Help Center: Cash drawers

What are cash drawers used for?

Cash drawers are designed to store cash and valuable documents. They are made from strong cold-rolled steel, which ensures resistance to mechanical damage and security. A solid key lock further protects against unauthorized access.

What are the types of cash drawers?

There are two basic variants of drawers:

Slide-out drawers – characterized by a wide compartment that slides out of the metal casing towards the user.

Flip-top drawers – these are devices with a longitudinal shape, characterized by a lid that opens from the top.

How do slide-out drawers series HD-KER and HD-KR differ?

Drawers with the KR designation are equipped with a completely removable insert for coins and notes and additionally a separately removable coin insert, whereas drawers with the KER designation do not have a removable full insert, offering only the possibility to remove the coin insert. Therefore, the choice of drawer model should be dictated by individual needs and customer preferences.

How to open a cash drawer?

Each drawer has a mechanical lock with a dedicated key. When the lock is in the closed position, the drawer cannot be opened. Upon turning the lock to the open position, there are two ways to open the drawer:

Manually – turn the key one more position beyond the open position. After overcoming a slight resistance, the drawer latch will be released, and the drawer will open.

Automatically – when the drawer is connected to a cash register or fiscal printer and the appropriate button with a previously programmed command is pressed, the drawer will open automatically. In slide-out drawers, there is also a third, emergency method of opening. Underneath, near the cable, there is a special lever. After turning the key to the open position and pulling it, the lock will be released and the drawer will slide out.

Will the cash drawer fit a particular model of cash register or fiscal printer?

It all depends on the connectors and features of the specific cash register or printer. If it supports communication through an RJ12 connector at a coil voltage of 12V or 6V, then everything should work together without any problems. Some drawers have control pins located differently than the drawer wiring.

Can you purchase just the insert for a cash drawer?

Certainly. Our product range includes accessory money inserts that fit both HD-KFT and HD-KR series drawers and can be placed directly in a desk drawer, counter, or other furniture.

What to do when the cash drawer does not cooperate with the fiscal device?

Our online store HDWR cash drawers offer three ways to open: manually, using the key included in the set, emergency, using a lever located on the bottom of the device, and electronically, after programming the appropriate opening command on the fiscal device, e.g., cash register. Will the drawers work with the Novitus cash register?

We are sorry, but our drawers are not compatible with Novitus cash registers. The Novitus brand requires an active drawer, while we only offer passive drawers in our range.
